Our Oil Sands Client required a maintenance access point for servicing on-pond tailings assets. The Project constructed a modular dock to provide mooring space and a dedicated crane pad, as well as refueling capacity for smaller work boats. The dock was designed to accommodate up to a 350-ton mobile crane, allowing for various heavy lifts near the shoreline during maintenance activities. The dock was constructed of twelve structural modules for offsite fabrication and straight-forward assembly on site and is also moveable to accommodate the rising pond elevation. Concept Selection, Detailed Design, and Fabrication of the Project were all performed by GN2.
Turn key one of a kind system, designed to fit the clients needs. System included integrated weight-reduction buoyancy system for relocating the dock with standard site equipment. Oversaw site assembly and commissioning of the asset. Assisted the Client in developing standard operating procedures.
GN2 developed a weight-reduction system using integrated buoyancy tanks to make relocating the dock significantly easier as the pond rises. This system allows the dock to be moved in a single shift using readily available site equipment.
Overall, GN2 was successful in delivering this highly custom asset on time and gained valuable experience for future projects.
