GN2

Coarse Tailings

Pipelines

Description

GN2 has successfully completed multiple coarse tailings Projects of various levels of complexity, these include:

  • Urethane lined pipe replacements Projects.
  • Urethane lined pipe extension and relocations.
  • Stress reduction initiatives, to reduce the observed stress in the pipelines seen by maintenance crews, making their work safer.

As these assets are core to a successful oilsands operation, GN2 emphasizes a need on “how-to” perform the work through 3D modelling the execution steps to ensure successful completion of the Project without affecting the operation of the asset.

Project Name:  Tailings Line Infrastructure – Multiple Projects

Services Provided: Detailed Engineering

Discipline(s): Mechanical and Structural

Budget: $1M – $100M

Duration: 3 months to 2 years

Scope Summary

The objective of this Project was to replace six (6) tailings pipelines and to engineer design improvements to reduce pipe stress in critical areas. This included modifications to existing supports and anchors, installation of bends with tight angular tolerances, and the addition of flex spools (rubber hoses) to accommodate pipe movement. GN2 completed both the detailed design and procurement of the piping items in time for the scheduled Line Shut Downs (LSDs).
